WE WANT TO BRIDGE THE GAP
Out of the entire STEM workforce...
35.2% of chemists are women
11.1% of physicists and astronomers are women
33.8% of environmental engineers are women
22.7% of chemical engineers are women
17.5% of civil, architectural, and sanitary engineers are women
17.1% of industrial engineers are women
10.7% of electrical or computer hardware engineers are women
and 7.9% of mechanical engineers are women.
In each of these careers, women make up less than 50% of the entire workforce. With JOBAY, we hope to introduce women to these careers in the hopes that they will join and improve the STEM industry. We hope that by introducing women in the Bay Area to the STEM field we will encourage more females to try out and follow through in careers relating to the STEM industry, thus bridging the gap between the number of males in the STEM field vs the number of women in the STEM field.
WE WANT TO FILL THE INDUSTRY
According to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, "Economic projections point to a need for approximately 1 million more STEM professionals than the U.S. will produce at the current rate over the next decade if the country is to retain its historical preeminence in science and technology."
STEM jobs are necessary because they contribute to the design of almost every single field of work. Without these STEM jobs, we wouldn't have the technology we have, or the buildings that make up our city. The STEM industry needs as many people as it can get in order for our society to continue making advancements. We hope that through the creation of JOBAY, we will be able to inspire interest in this field and increase the overall numbers of the STEM workforce.
